[MR] Donating Blood - Or Platelets!

Perhaps someone can clarify this for us,
I know that even if you can only donate blood once every 8 weeks or
whatever, I believe you can still donate valuable platelets much more
frequently. (My sister did so in grad school). Is that so?

If you are type O or Rh-, please, please donate blood. Chris and I are
unable to donate, as we were in England this May (we might be mad cows, moo,
etc.)
