Actually, it may not ... Some printers won't even do 1/2" margins in all cases.

My canon color inkjet (BJC-4400) ... not a really old printer, I think they 
still sell it even ... will only go down to a .6" margin on the bottom 
dimension.  I've seen other printers similar.

It would be safest to design it with a 1" margin .... at worst, .75" ... 
and all printers should be able to handle it.
