As one of the folks who questioned the appropriateness of the confections
and the hot chocolate, I do apologize if my opinions offended. The
original poster did ask for feedback in the public forum, and I think the
assumption was that feedback would be provided in the public forum.

The debate of being period versus not being period is, of course, the
neverending controversy. I am of the opinion that things that are on the
borderline, like coffee and chocolate, should still be presented in as
period a way as possible. While making things 100% period is impossible,
there's no harm in making the attempt. Being period should not just apply
to Arts and Sciences competitions and our garb, but to the overall culture
we are trying to portray. My suggestion to the original poster was to
find period equivalents to what she wanted to sell at Holiday Faire, and I
think this is possible, with a little bit of research and creativity, and
still be in line with the spirit of what she originally wanted to do.
