GREETINGS to all noble lords and ladies, knights, squires and gens d'armes
whose spirits thirst to witness brave deeds of arms.
The SHIRE OF DRAGON'S LAWE (Ashland, KY) wishes to invite all good gens
d'armes of whatever rank to a GRAND DEED OF ARMS.
To celebrate the culmination of a successful year of growth in our fair
shire, on the 17th day of November, at the lodge of the Greenbo State
Resort Park, we are holding our Premier event, CELTIC HARVEST
(www.geocities.com/black_dragon_keep/harvest2001.htm). After a day of noble
diversions a grand feast shall be held, catered by the Greenbo Resort Park's
four star chef, and served by their professional wait staff. Feast gear to
be provided (that's right--you don't have to wash up after feast!).
Though our Shire shall hold contests of arms for excellent prizes in heavy
and rapier combat, during the day, yet we would offer those of true
chivalric spirit more. Thus we proclaim the PAS D'ARMS OF THE WINTER ROSE.
For those who love the Pas, this is the one you've waited for all your life.
The feast and Pas will take place in a torch and candlelit hall festooned
with banners and tokens of the season. As was the custom of our forebears
of old, for those of gentle demeanor we shall have jongleurs and music, and
entertainments varied and delightful. But to requite the martial spirits of
brave warriors, in the center of the feasthall shall stand a barrier at
which twelve warriors shall have the opportunity to display their martial
prowess before the noble feasters. We welcome all properly accoutered gens
d'armes, whether knight, squire, or other to offer challenge.
The pas is limited to twelve combatants and will consist of individual
combats with sword, dagger, or axe. Combat will be fought at the barrier to
three good acknowledged blows according to modified rules of the company of
St. Michael (http://mqh.cit.cornell.edu/~mqh/st-mikes/)*. No effort has
been spared to make this the most romantic, heroic, period combat.
Heraldry, pageantry, great food and grand company--this is the Pas you've
always dreamed of!
All good and noble folk are invited, indeed urged, to witness these deeds.
Though the feast is limited to 75 gentles, those whose wish to dine off
board may observe the combats and other entertainments scheduled for the
feast from the gallery. Arrangements will be made for the noble combatants
to enjoy the feast and entertainments.
Those who wish to participate should contact Kenna McKenna rdawson at ezwv.com
for more information. More details will shortly be available at the website
as well.
*A disclaimer: be it understood, though we greatly admire the Company of
Saint Michael, we are not members, and they are not sponsors of this
event--we're just borrowing some of their rules...
