I would like to apologize to both the author and to the readers for the
mixup. What seems to have occurred was that the footnotes did not correctly
import when TI was laid out in Pagemaker and they were subsequently missed
when the article was proofed.  I commend the article to all--it's some very
fine research on a clothing style most folks do not know about. I will also
be printing an erratum in the next TI.

Her Excellency is correct--which is why the clipart is not referenced in the
text.
