I wouldn't worry overmuch about it. Given that Stierbach started as a
D&D game in my basement in late '80 / early '81, periodicity has always
been somewhat optional. You should'a been around when we were trying to
figure out how to blazon something as azure and [long arguments for a
heraldic color equivalent to gray].
