Its a bit of a non answer I'm afraid, but there was one maker of
gauntlets at Pennsic that seemed to have everything done right. Most
gauntlets I've seen so far do nothing to limit the rotational movement
of the thumb, which seems to get broken more often than most digits.
Think of an opponents weapon sliding down the shaft of your weapon and
impacting your thumb. If nothing keeps your thumb from being pushed
down, bad things may happen. I'll check my Pennsic book at home and try
and figure out whose gauntlets I thought were best...
