Tara,
Not all Scots are gaelic. The Scottish kingdom was a
bond between genetic and cultural influences from
the English, Scandanavian (i.e Viking), Norman (i.e.
French), Lowlands/Flemish as well as two strains of
Gaelic. If you are confused, then that means that you
are doing your research correctly and should proceed
with your study of Scotland! You probably want to
locate your persona within Scotland to help the
heralds you help you. Are you western highlands?
Orkneys? Isle of Mann? Lowlands, border lands?
