Sir Janos and Duke Logan,

Could one of you please forward the following letter to the chivalry
mailing list? He would probably like to hear from some of his
brothers.
Thanks,

Greetings,

As some of you know, Richard was diagnosed with diabetes this summer.
Sometimes, diabetics have problems with their feet due to decreased
circulation. This week, Richard ran into these problems.

A blister on his foot became infected, and the infection progressed so
rapidly, there was nothing that the doctors could do. Yesterday
(Friday), he went into surgery and they took his foot off, right below
the ankle.

The doctor said it looks good, if the swelling decreases enough and
there's no sign of infection in his leg, they'll do the final surgery
in the middle of the week to close everything off (it'll be cut then
just above the ankle).

He's doing well, in pretty good spirits. One of the first things he
said to me after the surgery was that he woke up with 'one sock too
many' (I just told him to 'try and favor the other leg' - Monty Python
quotes for those unfamiliar). The doctors says he knows some good
people who work on artifical limbs (I can't spell that word), and
Richard is already talking about being ready to fight at Gulf Wars.

If you want to send good wishes, you can email them to me, and I'll
print them out and take them to the hospital. Or, you can call or
visit. He's at Anderson Regional ((864) 261-1000) in room 698.
