At the August Golden Dolphin meeting, the following were RETURNED for
additional work:
Alys de Shaunde Device.
Gules, a standing balance and a chief double arched argent.
Conflict with the device of Jörg Siggeirssona: Gules, a standing
balance, arm bendwise, and a chief potenty argent. There is only a
single Clear Difference for the change to the line of division of the
chief.
Eryngerd le Trewe. Device.
Argent, a cock close sable, combed and wattled gules, legged and
beaked Or, vorant of a lizard vert.
Conflict with the device of Susannah Makejoy: Argent, a cock close
within a bordure sable. Small "held" charges like the lizard are not
counted for purposes of clearing conflict, nor are small details like
the color of legs and wattles, so there is only one Clear Difference
for the subtraction of the bordure.
Hannah Bat Levi Device -- kingdom resubmission.
Or, vetu ployé, a pomegranate slipped and leaved gules seeded Or.
There are two conflicts with this. The first is the device of
Francesca da Trani, registered in June of 1990 (via Meridies): Pean,
on a lozenge Or, a pomegranate gules, slipped and leaved vert. A
vetu field is functionally equivalent to <field> a lozenge, so there
is only one Clear Difference for the change to the field colors.
There is nothing for the change in colors of the slipping and
leaving, since that is less than half the charge.
The second conflict is against Granada: Argent, a pomegranate
seeded gules slipped and leaved vert. (Important non-SCA arms)
Again, there is only one Clear Difference for the change to the
field, and nothing for the slipping and leaving.
It appears that <Any field but argent> a pomegranate azure and <Any
field but argent> a pomegranate purpure are clear of conflict.
Isolde Corby. Badge. Laurel resub.
(Fieldless) Three birds close conjoined in annulo azure.
We're sorry, but this is being returned for another redraw. The
charges on fieldless badges must touch, but may not overlap as the
birds do here. We suggest that the heads of the birds be angled
somewhat so that the beak and face lie alongside the end of the tail.
If this is not clear, please contact Golden Dolphin for a drawing.
Míche{a'}l {O'} Comhdhain and Krystyne McGowan of Rose Hil. Joint
badge.
(Fieldless) On a cross flory argent four roses conjoined in base the
two in pale gules the two in fess purpure all slipped and leaved
vert.
This conflicts with the badge of Maddalena Salutati (formerly
Gwyneth Greenecliffe de la Brunefalaise), registered in May of 1992
(via the East): (Fieldless) A latin cross fleury argent charged with
a rose gules, barbed vert and seeded argent. There is one Clear
Difference for fieldlessness, but not one for changing the number of
roses.
Robert of Sacred Stone Badge. Laurel resub.
(Fieldless) Three birds close conjoined in annulo Or.
Siegfried McClure Device.
Azure, a horn argent.
While documentation for the name was included, there were no name
forms. In addition, while the name might possibly be registerable,
we find that a combination of a German given name and a Scottish
surname is highly unlikely to have occurred in period, and we would
not be surprised to see it returned by the Laurel office.
<Siegfried> is a late, possibly even modern form of an old Germanic
given name. In Latin records of the 12th and 13th centuries the name
appears as <Sigefridus>, probably representing a vernacular
<Sigefrid>. The earliest instance of this form that we have found is
from a 17th century version of one of the classic German heroic
tales. For a full report on Siegfried', see the Saint Gabriel
report 1623 at
http://www.panix.com/~gabriel/public-bin/showfinal.cgi?1623+0 or ask
Golden Dolphin to mail you a copy.
If you still wish to use "Siegfried" please consider a German byname
to go with it, instead of "McClure". The easiest and most common
form of a German byname is probably von' plus the name of a city or
town.
If, on the other hand, "McClure" is the most important part,
research Scottish given names to go with it. There are many online
sources at:
