In accordance with the submitter's request for an authentic 14th
Century British name, we have modified the True' to a form
documented to 1327.
Ethelfleda Davidsdohter. Name change.
The use of the Old Norse patronymic marker "dottir" is inconsistent
in an otherwise English name. Since our sources indicate that
"Ethelfleda" did not long survive the Norman Conquest, and "David"
was not introduced into England until the Norman Conquest, there is
very little time in which they could overlap, probably only the 50 to
100 years following 1066. We have therefore changed "dottir" to an
English form "dohter" found in 1095.
Ethelfleda Davidsdohter. Badge.
