Here is a follow-up to the discussion about quick lime, slaked lime, and lye. Calcium hydroxide, Ca(OH)2 (a.k.a. slaked lime, hydrated lime, etc.), is available at your local grocery store. It's labeled "Pickling Lime" and you will find it next to the Mason jars during home canning season. -BT
