Dear Lord Kendrick,
I have lost contact with a friend by the name of Jessica Rose -- her mundane
name. She was truly a fair maiden who I knew from a previous life in the
great state (and a peculiar state as well) of Utah. She moved to South
Carolina in 1984, and we kept in contact for the first few years that she
lived there. Unfortunately, the fact that I'm in the military has caused me
to be uprooted regularly, and I lost contact with her a decade ago.
Not long ago I saw an advertisement for an SCA event, and I instantly
thought of dear Jessica. She had become an SCA member when she moved to
South Carolina, and she always praised the organization and the people
associated with it. In fact, I was once going to fly down from Washington,
D.C., to join her for a weekend of SCA revelry, but again the military
interfered with my plans. It is one of my lingering regrets that I was
unable to make that trip, and I shall always consider it a black mark
against the organization to which I belong for blocking that liaison.
Forgive me for digressing. If, by chance, you happen to have Jessica Rose
on your mailing list, I would be eternally grateful if you could forward
this message for me. No, I'm not a stalker or a deranged individual in any
manner. I'm just someone who misses his friend.
Respectfully,
MAJ Dave Astin
