Hawkwood invites everyone to a weekend of relaxing in the woods. The summer 
is hot so we plan to seek the shelter of the forest and do what we do best, 
have FUN!

Fighting: There will be a torchlight tourney for the heavy as well as rapier 
fighters on Friday night. Saturday will offer the LAST chance to authorize 
for Pennsic in the region, along with a tourney for all fighters and 
fencers. There will be an archery Marshall available as well. It will likely 
be very HOT, so water coolers are highly recommended.
Arts & Sciences: All categories will be judged on skill shown as well as 
research and documentation.  Any questions contact the A&S minister for

1)	Baronial Scroll Text:  Our Baronial award scrolls are in need of new 
text!  We therefore would solicit those good gentles of our barony to flex 
their creative muscles and provide for us new words with which to convey the 
honor of the barony on our worthy populace.  Scroll text needs to be 
specific for a baronial award and general as far as particular persona (for 
instance, it would be no good to give a very accurate 9th century Viking 
scroll to a 16th century Spaniard).  Please see the current scroll text on

2)	Best non-clothing use of textiles.  This is for you fabric buffs.  
Weather sewn, spun, woven, knitted, embroidered, you name it, this is for 
you!  The only criterion is that it be a finished product that is not worn 
as clothing.  This can be an accessory such as a pouch or bag, it can be a 
tapestry, banner, napkin, table cloth, room divider, bed sheet, anything you 
can think of as long as it is not clothing!
3)	Best period game board.  This competition is for the game board and 
playing pieces, not for how well you can play the game.  Any medium is 
acceptable; the only rule is that it be an actual period board game (not a 
card game or physical game).  Game pieces may be submitted with a board, but 
will not be judged by themselves.  Game boards based on actual period models 
will be judged higher.
Grown-up Activities: We are not in Rome, but we plan to do as the Romans did 
anyway. During and after the torchlight tourney on Friday, a mundane toga 
party will be happening. Get out your sheets and lounge in the decadent cool 
of the night with us. A prize will go to the best representation of a 
god/goddess. Any deity can be portrayed as long as it works in a toga! 
Lounging pillows, grapes, and fans are recommended. There will be other 
contests held during the day on Saturday as well.
Children’s Activities: Lady Alessandra Ruscello will host children’s 
activities during the fighting on Saturday. Please dress the kids in light 
clothing that can get dirty (a water bladder fight may be in order). As 
always, help with the kids is greatly appreciated, so please spare some time 
to come and play with us.
Feast: Lady Fiona MacLeod will prepare a most enjoyable dinner on Saturday 
evening. Feast is limited to 100 gentles so please send those reservations 
quickly. Any concerns can be addressed to Fiona directly at

Site: The beautiful Camp York at King’s Mountain State Park is our home for 
the weekend. The site opens at 5pm on Friday afternoon and closes at 11am on 
Sunday morning. There are large cabins available but unfortunately no 
tenting. Merchants are welcome. Pets are only allowed if leashed. If you 
wish to cabin together you MUST reserve as a group, otherwise we cannot be 
sure you will be together. A 6-person minimum is required to reserve a 
cabin.
Cost: On-board/on-site=$15.00. On one/off the other=$10.00. Day trip=$5.00. 
Families will only pay for the adults and two oldest kids. Children 7-12 are 
half cost and 6 and under are free. Children MUST be included in any 
on-board reservation just so we count them. Please make reservations payable 
to “Canton of Hawkwood/S.C.A. Inc.” and send them directly to the autocrat. 
Only PAID reservations hold space on-board or on-site.

Directions: North: Take your best route to I-85 South just South of 
Charlotte NC. Take exit #8 (HWY 161 King's Mountain) and turn left. When you 
reach the fork in the road, bear right. Go 7 miles until you see the split 
rail fence on your right. Turn right after the fence in King's Mountain 
State Park. Take the first paved road on your left (Group Camps, Living 
History Farm). Follow the signs to Camp York.
South: Take your best route to I-85 just North of the NC/SC border. Take 
exit #2 (King's Mountain Military Park). Turn right on 216 through the 
Military Park to King's Mountain State Park. Turn at the sign for Group 
Camps. Follow the signs for Camp York
