Okay, stay with me on this one.
It's a castle
It's a castle
It's a castle!!!!!!!!
Am I getting through? Don't call it a fort. It's a castle. Sure, maybe it's
made out of wood, but so were motte and bailey castles. It's a castle! I'll
be blunt. I joined the SCA partly for education, partly to allay the stress
of everyday life, and partly to share experiences with like-minded folk, but
deep inside, the real reason I joined was, to one day storm the walls of a
castle while screaming a pithy battle cry.
Let's be honest. Pennsic is our big deal, our major yearly attempt to
immerse ourselves, if just for an instant, in the period. I'm going out on a
limb here, but wouldn't a castle looming over the battlefield be a decent
way to accomplish this?
As to the cost. Well, I have been renovating my condo, and a kitchen
designer gave me an estimate of $25,000 to redo a kitchen that measures 6
feet by 7 feet 6 inches. I'll take the castle thank you very much. Let's
face it, a castle that will last for years and costs the equivalent $2.50
per person is a bargain.
Okay, end of rant. Just remember. Enjoy it, ignore it, attack it, defend it,
but call it a CASTLE!
