Can't document the glass method. The glass above and below grinds into the body so the lye eats through faster, it also aids in breaking down bone matter. Once in gets into chewing tooth enamel (about three to five days) dental records become useless. I don't think oyster shells would do as well, as they are brittle, and will wear down themselves.

Yes, but you might be eating the pig someday, and those fun brain diseases like to hide in animal flesh, even after cooked.
"Plague Pits" being the documentable way to do it, sounds about right. Still used today in many places to get rid of bodies "not fit for respectable burial".
