[MR] Color copiers, registering blazons, etc..

Hi!

Actually, Laurel doesn't register the blazon. It's thought that
not every submitter nor every local herald will know a lot about
heraldry. There are even kingdom-level heralds that make
Atlantia's people look like Einsteins. Laurel has the power to
reblazon things. That power has been used in the past, and is
used now.

So, what _does_ Laurel register? The emblazon, or, in other
words, the picture. See:
http://sca.org/heraldry/loar/1997/06/cvr.html , in which the last
Laurel sets forth this principle, especially with respect to
color printers and copiers.

Now, it is more or less the expectation that since no two artists
are going to do the same thing, that you'll get some variation
from one to another.

There are a few brands of markers etc. that seem to stay
colorfast and are readily available. The most common are Crayola
markers.

I found out about color copiers and their wicked ways when I
recently presented a paper on the coats of arms of the major
characters in the legend of Tristram and Isoud. I carefully drew
out each emblazon, and colored them in with Crayola markers, and
went down to Kinko's to run off color copies, since there's only
24 hours in a day. To my dismay, purple came back distinctly...
blueberry. Other colors were similarly munged. Upon reporting
this, I was told that color copiers aren't _quite_ up to exactly
copying exact colors, but approxinate as best they can. That
won't do.
