[MR] Events with sign-interpreted courts

Greetings!

It has been several years since I have interpreted in front of large groups
(we used to do Shakespeare "reader's theatre for the hearing impaired - talk
about losing the beauty of the language in translation!) and I was never ASL
certified, but if Devora's supervisor is at an SCA event that I am at, I
would be happy to do my best to interpret for her.  I learned sign when I
attended Clarkston High School in GA, which was the local integration school
for the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf.  As students were encouraged to
sign the way they speak to reinforce the peculiarities of the English
language, I learned to sign as I spoke without using ASL's grammar
structure.  If she can follow verbally signed English, and put up with me
being a little rusty and getting finger-tied on the spelling of some of the
names, I would be happy to assist.  I live in Sacred Stone, so I am not able
to attend many of the northern events due to the long travel distances, but
once she's involved and starts to pre-plan her travel schedule <g> let me
know where she'll be, and if I can make it there I'd be happy to help.

And Vard, if you happen to have the information on the attempt at
standardization of SCADian terms and phrases into ASL, I would GREATLY
appreciate that - you might want to provide the supervisor a copy of that
too, so she will be familiar with the sign when used in court.  As I will
not be able to make Pennsic this year, I will see if any of my friends going
can get a copy of the handout from Lord Gaffer and/or Lady Cedar if they are
teaching the class. (Thanks for the info, Ysolt!)
