I think that if the additional 'definitions' were made, then they hold some
validity.  If one wishes to increase the good, there are two ways to
accomplish this: 1- increase the good or 2- decrease the bad.  The additions
allow us to see where the 'bad' might reside.  If we can both increase the
good AND decrease the bad, we have made the experience twice as enjoyable.

Would it be better not to recognize people in those categories?
