Aha, one who has seen the way: register the simple form, display the
elaborate one.

While this particular form of diapering is one I haven't seen, there are
zillions of examples of diapering in period rools and heraldic texts. I
would not have the least bit of trouble with such a display; if done well
it might get points for spiff.
