Hmmm. There actually are signs for that, but not *hand* signs. Heraldic
ones.
You know how the TV news flashes an icon of the Libyan flag in one corner of
the screen while they talk about news in Tripoli? This is purely a blue-sky
idea, but I wonder if a herald might be able to hold up Ozymandus
Thorkelsson's device, and the badges of his office, household, and awards,
on a poster board, then stick on the new one. It might not capture the long
speech about what a good guy he is, but it might be helpful -- both for
those in the back of the room ("What? Blessed are the cheesemakers?!") and
for those who don't hear so well.
At least it would be easier than hiring real-time sign language interpreters
and training them in a strange new vocabulary.
