[MR] TV Coverage

As far as coverage ..

I'm not against it personally. But as with any other publicity we would have
to be careful about it, seems to me, for the reasons I stated.

We are a non-profit group. We qualify for "free" advertising on community
calendars and all of that on both radio and television. But when do those
commercials come on? Right before the National Anthem? So we'll get a whole
new crop of gamers who'll want troll names and pet dragons, insomniacs, 2nd
shifters ... well, that wouldn't be so bad. Sleep schedules for second
shifters would get them up right about the right time to show up at events
on good SCAdian time ... they'd fit right in. *wink* But you see my point
... Who really watches TV at that hour? Really? On the stations that HAVE
community calendars? I mean,if I'm up at that hour, I'm gonna watch Animal
Planet, not reruns of Full House on Fox. Ya know?

The potential is there, if the marketing can be savvily manipulated. But do
any of us have the time? Or the skill? Or are we willing to take the
responsibility should it NOT go the way we want?

My dissappointment is in the limited number of public demos I've seen here.
This is my first kingdom but my lord was born in down in Ansteorra. They had
regular demos. Some were a bit gauche - like the biannual in-garb trek to
the local mall called Freak the Mundanes. But they also made fighter
practices a mini-event. Everyone showed up in garb. Non-fighters brought
A&S. That and fundraisers like in-garb car washes and bake sales were their
biggest advertisements.

One of the local cantons here does that. Nimenfeld has three times the
number of folks at their fighter practices as they do at meetings. They have
the A&S group who chatelaine and waterbear for the fighters. There is a
great deal of interest from moderns who stop to ask questions. Lord Falcone
is GREAT with the kids in the park, letting them take a whack at him now and
again and explaining armor and the martial art. To my lord that is the way
it should be. Fighter practices are a free demo every week. And how many of
us are really taking advantage of it? I can't speak for much outside of my
corner of the kingdom but ... around here we have room to improve our image
and our numbers on the rolls right there.

Just a few quiet nudges in directions we could go, that would be "safe" (and
cheap!),

Sajah
