A judge can be prejudiced by knowing someone without
being dishonest. It is very easy to allow the praise
or criticism of someone by others to cloud your
judgement of their current work, especially if you are
not knowledgable in the medium they are using. It is
also possible that you can be too hard on someone you
like or someone in your own household to avoid the
accusation of favoritism, so that a kind of reverse
prejudice occurs. If you know the person's work very
well, you might have unreasonably high expectations.
I could think of dozens of other ways in which you
could be prejudiced - what if you gave the person
advice on developing the piece and they ignored it?
All of this can happen subconsciously without any
deliberate dishonesty, especially if the judge has to
go through many entries in a short time.
