Another consideration for having hot showers is drainage.

Nice hot showers = longer showers = more waste water

In the hard-packed clay of the Northern Serengeti we had to dig a pretty
deep drainage ditch to accomodate the excess shower drainage (the soil
wouldn't absorb water easily). Taking a look at it on Saturday, I noticed
that we barely made it and 1 or 2 more showers would have meant a flooded
campsite.
