Greetings good gentles.
This missive is to let the CA and other fighters, etc know how the ABD
(anti bounce back) or APD (anti penetration device) that has been required
to be on all arrows by Aug 1 is going.
In addtion to the two approved designs that should be available from the
SEM's page, there is a lot of work on other designs being done. I would
advise folks to wait just a while and see what the outcomes of these tests
are before you choose a method to retrofit all your arrows.
For those gentles interesting in TESTING or coming up with new
designs...Please subscribe to SCA-MissileCombat at yahoogroups.com to see what
is needed and what you can do to help.
There is one experimental design of an airfoil type that is made out of
siloflex tubing that shows real promise if the bugs can be worked out and
the SEM approves it. It seems to work only on fiberglass shafts however and
breaks wooden shafted arrows if used on them....my own and others observations
I am testing a similar construction made out of golftube material which is
lighter and seems to work on both types of arrows..... It so far is working
out well and solves the sharp edge and crushing problems that are inherent
in GT plastic.
I am concentrating on the recurve type arrows because I do not have a good
crossbow to use in testing....can someone see how things are working on
cross bow bolts?
There are only a few of us Atlantians on the Egroup and only two of us
doing any testing as far as I can see.....those of you with some ideas and
time, Atlantia and the Society needs your help!
Excuse me for being blunt, but I don't want all the "solutions" to this to
come from out west when we have good people with good ideas here.
thank you for your attention in the Tavern....now could I have a strong
drink please!
