[MR] painting fabric?

Greetings to the tavern
	I would like to paint 10 yards of 7.5 oz cotton duck (like 
canvas, but less stiff).  Because of the length of the piece I can't 
see buying many small bottles of fabric paint at Michaels.  Do you 
think I could spray paint it, or use house paint?  I am planning on 
making a castle wall design and would like to be able to use it 
outside and roll or fold it up for transport and storage.  I did buy 
16 oz of white and black fabric paint to mix for the detailing, but I 
want the basic color to be solid grey to start with.
Any (cheaper) ideas will be welcomed.
