Tanner,
You've done a GREAT job. Remember the number 64th fact of service:
"An unhappy person will tell ten people how unhappy that they are, and
you'll be lucky if one person mentions that they enjoy or appreciate your
effort"
I appreciate your effort.

Well, I don't think I would call myself a moderator,
since I don't actually moderate the list content. Rather,
I think of myself as an administrator, in that I make
sure the list runs smoothly and if someone gets way off
topic I remind them and hope that gets them back on topic. :-)
You are correct in that the Merry Rose should not be used
as a list to send your latest jokes (or virus warnings or
whatever). In this case, however, the joke in question
did have something to do with the Society. I have long
maintained that anything that is relevant to Atlantia
and the SCA can be posted on the Merry Rose. If I were
to get into trying to figure out within that what was
appropriate it would degenerate into a big mess very
quickly. Therefore, I set out clear lines that everyone
can see. If it has anything to do with Atlantia and the
SCA, even so far as to get people acquainted, then it
is alright.
I'm sorry that you feel the list is mostly noise. I
try very hard for that not to be the case. I don't claim
I'm always successful, but I do try. For those people who
think there's too much traffic on the list, that's
why we have a digest version (only 1, or at most 2
messages/day). If even that is too much, then we have
the online archives which are updated as mail is received.
