To my dearest Brother Balynar, Just Ruler of the Lands of Caer
Mear, mightiest Warrior of the Viking peoples, I send heartfelt
greetings.
My Brother I have heard rumors of a barbarian uprising against your
most noble Reign and I wish to offer my poor services on your
behalf. As I am a poor Knight with no monies in which to travel this
land all I, and my local men at arms, can do is write this
letter...Alas, how I wish I and these good swordsmen could be
there at your side fighting off these flea infested, lice ridden, camel
loving, cesspool smelling, manure covered, backstabbing, puss
ridden, bad mead swilling, Odin hating infidels!!! If only we had
some source of income that would allow us to travel to your fair
lands and stand beside you as the heroes of legend...I would stand
as Yolus to your Hercules (you being the strongest and skilled of
men...and being in charge of Caer Mear defensive funds).
(sigh) My heart is heavy that I cannot afford to make the trip to help
defend your divinely inspired defence of the rich Caer Mear lands. I
have sacrificed the last remaining, scraggly, thin, desiccated, non-
milk giving, barren cow that we had to Odin in hopes that the Wise
One-eye would send us some miracle, perhaps some horses to
travel on and some food to eat...or perhaps simple gold so that I
may make the purchases necessary, or some combination thereof.
Oh my Brother, if only we could stand side by side as we have in
the past, our swords flashing in the sun, blood soaked grass
beneath our feet and the corpses of our enemies piled knee deep
around us.
I must sign, seal and send this letter now as I must go and try to
find some food for the villages poor, hungry children. I trust your
confidence so that no others may learn of my offer to help and
besiege me with pleas for my help.
I remain,
Sir Daemon Broussard, Knight of the realm, poorest Brother in
Arms.

Ashahito, Noble Mongol, most learned of Scholars,
I hope this missive finds you in good health as I know that you are
a wanted man in the Rich Caer Mear lands, hunted by the evil
tyrant Balynar.
I have heard stories of how you feel the Rich lands of Caer Mear
were stolen from you and would like to offer my sympathies for
your situation. As a poor merchant Knight I have had goods taken
from me and understand the plight which has befallen you. How I
would like to rise up against this evil tyrant with you and help you
regain that which you feel was wrongfully taken. Unfortunately I
have had several caravans and shipping vessels which have not
returned these last seasons and find myself sorely lacking in funds
to make such a long and arduous trip. Just the other day I had to
sell another of my possessions in order to establish a hospice for
traveling Mongol Scholars. Then there was my annual gift to the
Mongol Steppes Pony association...I do these things out of the
goodness of my heart as I have a respect for the Mongol peoples
and my father often dealt with them. My father was a collector of
many fine things, he was often hired to help locate and return
items. The Mongol rulers used him many a time to return precious
items that other people had taken possession of. It is because of
this past association of my family with the good Mongol peoples
that I would offer my services to you at fair market value, with only
a modest 15% mark-up for travel expenses. I will even be as kind
to let you set the market value on mine and the horde of death that
rides with me. If properly compensated I will bring your swordsmen
of renown, archers who can take birds from flight, horseman who
are only slightly less skilled than the Mongols themselves, and
spearmen who can pluck the eyes from your enemies heads. More
than this I will bring with me an animal that if most feared on the
dark continent, one that slays intruders with no remorse or guilt, an
animal that kills far more than any other in this dark land. A animal
of grace and beauty that even the ancient Greek people knew of. Of
course I will expect to be largely compensated for this also as this
animal is female and has a lust for sparkly pretties. Please send
your opening fair bid so we may speak again, I know that you will
keep this offer secret so that no others will learn that I offer my
services at a reduced price to the most noble Mongol People.
Sir Daemon Broussard, Merchant Knight, Fair and Just Monetarily,
Friend of the Mongol People, Restorer of Lost Items ( including
Rich lands)
