Greetings All,
Resulting from a number of injuries and situations involving Combat Archery
at Gulf Wars X, the Society Earl Marshall has prepared and sent a letter to
BOD. This letter examines the safety issues concerned with the wide variances
in construction of arrows and arrow shafts from kingdom to kingdom.
Duke Eringlen is proposing society wide that Anti-Bounce Devices be required
on all arrow and bolt shafts that are narrower than 1 1/4".
In response, there are several in Ansteorra that are argueing rather than
changing the arrows, all fighters should be required to wear additional eye
protection in case an arrow shaft does rebound and pass through the grill or
eyeslots of a standard SCA list-legal helmet. The instigators of
eye-protection over weapon modification are preparing a letter writing
campaign to BOD to support their stance.
I can not say if this issue will be dealt with at the next BOD meeting, or if
this will be considered at all. In the event that this does become a major
issue, I thought it might be a good idea that this be known before it became
an entirely one-sided issue.
Vels, called Landstrykkr
