Greetings from Master Terafan,

I have found that simple exterior latex house paint, cut 1:1 with
water works ideally for items you intend to use outside, like tents, running
walls, etc..

Mixing 1 part water with 1 part paint provides a couple of advantages:
 - The color penetrates the fabric really well
 - You avoid having to "glop" it on, meaning a thin layer which helps avoid
cracking, flaking, and peeling.
 - Not to mention that each can of paint goes twice as far

Using exterior latex provides some distinct advantages as well.
 - The latex (i.e. plastic) makes the paint flexible which also helps avoid
cracking, flaking, and peeling
 - It increases the waterproofness of the fabric (if it matters)
 - It is designed to not fade in extreme sun or rain, so you won't have
color loss.
 - Fairly inexpensive

This information originally comes from Master Dafydd ap Gwystl, but has
worked for me on 3 different pavilions one of which is now 5 years old.

respectfully,

Subject: [MR] painting fabric?

Greetings to the tavern
I would like to paint 10 yards of 7.5 oz cotton duck (like
canvas, but less stiff). Because of the length of the piece I can't
see buying many small bottles of fabric paint at Michaels. Do you
think I could spray paint it, or use house paint? I am planning on
making a castle wall design and would like to be able to use it
outside and roll or fold it up for transport and storage. I did buy
16 oz of white and black fabric paint to mix for the detailing, but I
want the basic color to be solid grey to start with.
Any (cheaper) ideas will be welcomed.
Thanks in advance

regards, Failenn (Maureen)
