I am highly NOT in favor of splitting the list!
(The rest is a rambling explanation, and you are welcome to skip it!)
Currently the MR has some traffic, but except for minor explosions, it
really isn't all that busy. (Seemed busier several years ago, but that might
be because I got to check my email less frequently.)
First of all, we do currently send relevant information regarding events,
late breaking news, etc.
And we chat. We are a social group of people afterall!
If you split these into two groups, those who are interested in chatting
would have to be subscribed to both or they would not be getting the
postings that we chat about. And often someone has posted an important bit
in replying or expounding on an earlier post. Sometimes there is a fine line
between what is information and what is chatting.
Truthfully, I would find even the event announcements would fall into the
chatty category since the information is printed in the Acorn and available
on the Kingdom website. And what about the extras and color postings, like
the current Mongol's Revenge stuff. I am not able to attend this event, but
I am really enjoying the missives!
And who would MONITOR these lists and see that people were sending only
information to the information list and chatting on the other? Ourselves!
And we would run into the same differences of opinion as to whether
something was appropriate or not! (Frankly, I did not find the cartoon to be
sexist in the least...unless it was the assumption that the pig must be a
male...but that's another issue entirely)
As for the crucial information that absolutely must get out....event
cancellations, site changes, explanations on policy..........there is
currently a seneschals list. If the information absolutely MUST get out, I
often get a copy of it there first and can disseminate it to my local group
through meetings and our list.
As for the amount of mail, my email (an probably yours too) has a sort
feature. I can sort and mass delete those emails I have no interest in. And,
when there has been a case of something really driving me crazy, (say
vampire teeth) I have added a rule to my inbox to automatically delete
anything bearing that subject line or phrase. Then I don't even have to see
it!
(Dusting the yellow pollen off the screen and getting back to work! )
