Siegfried, Fen and Friends,

Thanks for the interesting responses. This has been a most enjoyable
and educational exchange. I appreciate the opportunity to learn from
all of you. I do have one of Siegfried's combat bows, but rarely
shoot it while in garb (as some of you know, I'm doing period
longbow right now, and will be adding a period "Burgundian" recurve
bow if it ever gets fixed). I mainly use the crossbow for what I
call "post-work therapy with violence" on an 8-yard range in my
basement. My favorite target was my 25-year certificate from UVA,
which I took great delight in shredding one bolt at a time.

Fen, your advice about crossbows at Pennsic is good. I've marshaled
twice at Pennsic, and was aware of East Kingdom allowing rifle
stocks. No problem for me, and as a "guest" in their kingdom I
didn't fuss. Where I got tripped up was a having strung bow brought
to me for inspection. I got straightened out on this right away, and
although I wasn't completely comfortable, had no further problems.

As a matter of fact, before I go to Pennsic again (not this year), I
plan to read the East Kingdom archery rules. Maybe this should be
SOP for all Atlantians who marshal there. It can't hurt.

Just as a point of courtesy for those who may not know: you
*will* see some riflestock crossbows at Pennsic. Our ruling
against is Atlantia specific only. So don't jump someone who
brings you a riflestock during inspections. And no snarky
remarks either ;)
