<body class='hmmessage'><div dir='ltr'>I took some time in the late afternoon to toss some darts as well, and for the most part, I concur with Enequy's conclusions. But I also had a sicussion afterwards with Jonathas, and had an interesting idea, which I kind of like. It would mean using the 120cm target, but scoring 1-10, for every ring, instead of 1-5, for each color. it would mean more potential points, and further down the line, more challenge for those who become more skilled.<div><br></div><div>I am one of those who actually has more trouble hitting the target at 20 yards than 30 or 40, simply because I used to throw javelin for distance in HS and college. I didn't get any hits on the 80cm for either the 20 yard regular round or the speed round. But I could hit the 120cm.</div><div><br></div><div>So my conclusions are:</div><div>1 - 6 darts</div><div>2 - 120 cm, scoring 1-10 points</div><div>3 - keep timed rounds</div><div>4 - 3 rounds of 20, 20 timed, 30 and 40 yards for a rank</div><div>5 - no ranks for a year (agreed), but still have a score reporting system to gather data to determine how ranks should be set up.</div><div><br></div><div>Reyne<br><br><div><hr id="stopSpelling">From: enequy@verizon.net<br>To: jaynardone@comcast.net; archers@seahorse.atlantia.sca.org<br>Date: Sun, 1 Sep 2013 08:48:06 -0400<br>Subject: Re: [Archers] Atlatl Rules Final voting<br><br>

<div><font size="2" face="Arial"><span class="ecx013120312-01092013">Good morning
everyone. Well thanks to Jonathas I was able to set up the Atlatl practice
range and ran it most of the day, until about 3:30. There were a few of the
people that do shoot the Atlatl show up and a number of new people that had
never shot it before. I set the targets side by side and set the range so we
could shoot at 20, 30, and 40 yards. I asked everyone to shoot for the large
target with a set of darts and then shoot at the smaller target with a set of
darts. A set of darts consisted of 6 darts. I even did a timed round three
times, and one time with experienced throwers. </span></font></div>

<div><font size="2" face="Arial"><span class="ecx013120312-01092013">1) With the newbees
the general consensus was that the smaller target was the best one to go with.
One said that the big one was nice but after a bit of practice the smaller one
was the best for long term shooting. There was a number of experienced throwers
that said the 80 cm target is the best one to use. Smaller than the 120 and
larger then the standard archery target of 60 sm.</span></font></div>

<div><font size="2" face="Arial"><span class="ecx013120312-01092013">2) I We all used 6
darts instead of three. Everyone that was out there said that was the preferred
quantity to throw each time. There was even the comment that you need six to
determine your aim and mistakes ( the same as in archery). </span></font></div>

did real well on getting points. But then there was the newbees and the rest
have not done a lot of throwing waiting for the final rules. But talking to
Allen where he does do Atlatl on Sundays. He has a number of throwers that are
really good at the short ranges - and that is probably where most people will
make there points. The points for this will not reach anything like archery. I
would recommend that we go without ranks for one year to see where people make
their average scores and use that as a guide to generate ranks for the Atlatl in
the future.</span></font></div>

rounds. The first time I did it was just to see if I could get off 6 safely. I
had 8 seconds to spare. The next time I did it was trying to be
accurate and still had a few seconds to spare along with others that
were shooting at the same time. The third time was the same. Each time I
did the timed round there was no safety issue as everyone paid attention to the
line, the same as in archery. One person that did it with me got five off. Even
in archery until you are experienced in doing a timed round you do not always
get six arrows off. </span></font></div>

had two of the white foam used at commercial ranges. The 120 cm had the double
layers of the foam picked up at Home depot. In both cases the point of the dart
usually made it all the way through the target and stuck out enough to see the
metal point but I never saw the wood on the back of the target.

<p class="ecxMsoNormal">Good evening everyone, I probably should wait until the
morning to do this but I wanted to get word out to everyone. I want to thank
Master Jonathas once again for setting up the 88cm and the 122cm targets at
Lochmere Shoot today. I saw many people throwing Atlatl at both and I would
like to hear opinions and the voting for one of the two target sizes. I will
then make the final decision based off of your input. At this point we are
only talking about the target sizes as we have already set the other items in
past discussions. Once the target selection is complete, I will send out a
recap note and move forward to have the Atlatl rules posted. I want to thank
you all for taking part of this discussion and helping us move forward with
this too.</p>
