<font color='black' size='3' face='Comic Sans MS, sans-serif'>I've used pool noodles that worked as rats.  Cut up the thin noodles into sections, wrapped them in black duct tape, gave them whiskers and a tail.  They worked pretty well.  I'd put them at various distances in a few different positions.  Keep them back at least 10 yards or so.
