I believe if equestrian attend an event with their animals an additional $50 insurance must be purchased, an additional coat an event may not be able to budget. Our barony holds several events at a church in town - not a suitable site for archery. All valid reasons for not including an activity. Simply not knowing a community of capable marshals is not.

Cog
Sent from my iPad

On Jan 25, 2013, at 9:10 PM, Bobbi <wavqueen1@yahoo.com> wrote:

While I do know that an MiC has the right to say what will take place at an event, i'm sorry but to me that is NOT what is in question here. If archery wasn't taking place at this event because there was no room; or because of other basic reasons that tend to happen for a certain discipline of any type to not happen at an event; that would be one thing and to me would be understandable (no funding, etc). However, in this case the MiC's reasoning was because he couldn't trust more than a handful of marshals and those marshals weren't available. At least that is what I understand to be this case.

I'm sorry, but if this MiC has a problem with all of the other wonderful marshals out there, then he needs to bring those problems and names to the DEM and/or the EM and/or Kingdom, and let them know. If this MiC feels that any
marshal at all can't be trusted, that he can't use them at an event, then that fact needs to be addressed as to why, and dealt with if necessary. To me that is something that is serious enough not to be just swept under the bridge (so to speak).

If this MiC has personal problems with all of the other marshals, since there are so many marshals that he apparently doesn't trust, then he should have backed off from being the MiC (something about the SCA and chivalry comes to mind here) and let someone else do that job.

The part about "these are live fire ranges", ummm, excuse me am I missing something here? Aren't they always live fire ranges when target archery is involved? So is this MiC saying that every event he has attended where archery is involved but one of his trusted marshals isn't in charge....is this MiC therefore saying that archery was unsafe at that time? If that is how he feels, then why didn't he bring that up at every one of
those events? Because from what I have been told, it is EVERYONE'S position to point out anything that they feel is unsafe at an event, to the Autocrat.

This really bothers me in so many ways.

Serena (just my .02¢ worth)

 From: Janyn Fletcher <janynfletcher@comcast.net>
To: 'Charles Sprouse' <sprousecp@yahoo.com>; 'Archery List' <archers@atlantia.sca.org>
Sent: Friday, January 25, 2013 6:00 PM
Subject: RE: [Archers] Ymir question

When I was first made aware of this about a week and a half ago, I posted inquiring why this was the case. I was also given some direct information from some of the marshal’s that have run archery in years past. I will keep this generic for discussion sake. I was first told
that the MIC canceled archery “due to lack of
interest.” His words….This is what really got the hair on the back of my neck to stand up, and I also posted about this because I didn’t believe this for a second! As I dug into the situation I found out that the MIC who started the conversation with “I have been MIC for the last 15 years…” admitted that he only trusted a handful of marshals to run archery and those few were unavailable.

<span style="color:rgb(31, 73, 125);font-family:"Calibri", "sans-serif";font-size:11pt;">

<span style="color:rgb(31, 73, 125);font-family:"Calibri", "sans-serif";font-size:11pt;">I respectfully posted back that I was the DEM for TA in Atlantia and all of my marshals are “trusted” by me or they would not be marshals. The response was something nonsensical like “these are live fire ranges.” Which had me
scratching my head because all of our
ranges are live fire ranges. I posted back to that effect and there was no movement. I believe at that point Saphir graciously offered to round up some marshal’s so the activity could continue. A few days passed and the MIC posted that after failing to contact anyone he trusted, he decided to cancel the activity. I once again posted and frankly I was not happy. I posted that this should never happen in Atlantia and I was going to take it to the Kingdom. A challenge was posted back to me to do what I needed to do.

<span style="color:rgb(31, 73, 125);font-family:"Calibri", "sans-serif";font-size:11pt;">

<span style="color:rgb(31, 73, 125);font-family:"Calibri", "sans-serif";font-size:11pt;">I sent a message to Sir Otto our Earl Marshal and sent the message trail to him as well.
