<pre style="font-size: 9pt;"><tt>Noble friends,
Since Lady Lorelei is challenging us to make arrows for the 30th
Birthday bash, perhaps some of you can get ideas from this site:
<a href="http://www.englishwarbowsociety.com/EWBS_ARROW_SPECIFICATIONS.html" target="_blank">http://www.englishwarbowsociety.com/EWBS_ARROW_SPECIFICATIONS.html</a>
Included here are the specifications for the original British Longbow
Society "standard arrow" (the BL-BS is now defunct, and the English War
Bow Society has inherited the design). This is followed up by the EWBS's
own designs as used in their roving and distance shoots. These
"standard" arrows are meant to make ammunition uniform in their
competitions. There are lots of good ideas here.
Also take a look at the EWBS's page on their Tudor Livery Arrow:
<a href="http://www.englishwarbowsociety.com/tudor-livery-arrow.html" target="_blank">http://www.englishwarbowsociety.com/tudor-livery-arrow.html</a> .
I used these pages for ideas on my last group of "traditional" display
arrows for living history demonstrations. Instead of a 1/2" shaft, I
used 3/8", because that's what I had on hand, and because I reasoned
that a 15th century Scottish longbow made from local woods would shoot a
slightly less robust arrow. This is a leap, since I have no data on
period shaft sizes except for the Mary Rose arrows.
Have fun.
Kind regards,
Lord Mungo Napier, former Captain of Archers to Sir Oliver Sinclair of
Roslyn
