[Archers] Big Pool Noodles for Targets

Noble Friends of the Bow,

I noticed that Giant supermarkets are currently selling "Big Boss" pool
noodles in their seasonal section. These tubes measure about 3 3/8" in
diameter, versus the more common 2 1/4" size. The "Big Boss" noodles are
priced at $1.99 in Giant. They come in five colors. I was not able to
measure their length, but they appear to be a bit longer than the older
tubes which I think are a meter long.

This is the first time I've seen tubes in this size, but they probably are
or will be available from other vendors. Giant is part of the same company
that owns Martins and Food Lion stores, so the tubes might also be stocked
there.

Larger noodles might have interesting applications for tournament targets.
One possibility I see is to use them in place of, or in addition to, the
"lollypops" we shoot at in "color-called time shoots". This would make the
shoot a bit more difficult, so perhaps they could be moved closer to the
shooting line, or more tubes could be used with tighter spacing. The tubes
could be mounted over large dowels or green garden stakes driven into the
ground to about half the height of the tube. To minimize arrow damage, I
suggest NOT using steel rebar (IMHO, rebar should be banned from our
targets).

I'm sure our target geniuses could come up with all sorts of clever ways to
use these tubes.
