[Archers] BBC: Royal Company of Archers

Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Archers and Scots,

Today the BBC carried a brief article about Scotland's First Minister
Nicola Sturgeon's address to the 2019 Church of Scotland General Assembly
("The Kirk", as the official state church is known in Scotland). O.K., so
this isn't of great relevance to us, except perhaps for this very
interesting photo of Ms. Sturgeon (in white at center) progressing into the
Assembly. She is flanked by an honor guard from the Royal Company of
Archers.

The Royal Company of Archers dates officially from 1696, and has held a
Royal Charter since 1713. They are an Edinburgh ceremonial military unit,
as well as a gentlemen's social and sports club. The Royal Company of
Archers is part of the Royal Household of Scotland and serves as Guard of
Honor whenever the Sovereign (meaning the Queen right now) visits
Edinburgh. Now is this cool, or what? And by the way, the Royal Company is
open to any Scottish male (sorry ladies), but new members have to be voted
in, and that means candidates must be pretty good archers with a Scottish
longbow. They take their shooting pretty seriously.

And just for fun, here is another BBC shot from a couple of years back. The
Queen, Royal Trains, longbows, and even a kilt (the man behind HRM)--how
British can you get?
