[Archers] Marshal Nomenclature

Noble Friends of the Bow,

I would like to spark a discussion about what we as Target Archery Marshals
who are in charge of a sub-group's archers call ourselves.

As I understand the way our title is stated as officers of the kingdom, we
are simply called "[Name of subgroup] Target Archery Marshal". That applies
to all the TA marshals of that group, so there is no way to tell the
difference between the gentles who file the quarterly reports and "run the
shop" from their subordinates. No problem when I was the only TA Marshal in
Isenfir, but now we have six active TA marshals.

For a while I used the handle "Target Archery Marshal In Charge", but was
told is an official designation only for a TA who is running an event, and
that using it at the group level was incorrect.

Since then I have informally called myself "Captain of Archers" on
correspondence, which seems to be an accurate description (see signature
below). I know this might sound a bit haughty, but it is a useful
differentiation, especially as I am sometimes the point-of-contact for
inquiries from potential new members, outside groups that want an archery
demo/speaker, etc.

I recognize that, if official, such a designation would need Kingdom
approval. Maybe this is something upon which we could agree upon and ask
TRMs for official recognition through our next DEM. Does anyone know if
other kingdoms use such at title that could serve as a guide?

Another purely practical idea: If we need to do business with the TA
Marshal of another group, it would be handy to know which TA to contact.
Perhaps a star [*] or some other mark could be added to listings on the
marshals' roster page to show who is in charge. This would be an easy
programming fix, and completely separate from any question about titles.

Any other ideas? Is this a tempest in a teapot?

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
Captain of Archers, Shire of Isenfir
