[Archers] Archers Digest, Vol 172, Issue 1

This is a very good and true post and I agree it needs to be said. As someone who has also hosted, designed and MIC’ed major archery shoots in the SCA I can honestly say it is a ton of work! Those who are crazy enough to come back year after year to put all of that effort into it will get tired of doing so at some point. This is our 9th year of St. Sebastian’s at Pennsic and I will stand my ground that I will be done at 10! SAAD draws hundreds of archers which says it is has been and was a very successful shoot.

To expect the same team of 10 or 15 marshals, support and site staff to continue to support that is both unrealistic and frankly just unfair as well. So as some have already said, instead of complaining how about stepping up to take over as MIC, station builder or even a marshal for the day and you not shoot the event so others can enjoy? This is the way these events will continue to exist going forward.

I realize the small amount of us “Craizes” is small and getting smaller but when I look around at the amount of energetic and talented archers and marshals we have in our Kingdom, we should have no problems getting volunteers for our major archery events.

I worked for me because I work out of my home and I lived close. But the main issue was I was willing to do the work to make a great event.
