[Archers] ROYAL ARCHERY TOURNAMENT QUESTION - PLEASE READ

"As for Royal Archer, the reason it has traditionally been held in the spring/early summer rather then when most archers are at their true peek in the fall is because the kingdom wants to know who the best archer is going into Pennsic and the Archery Champions shoots."

Forgive me if this is blunt, but thats a truly short-sighted tradition. To make our own kingdom championship dependent on Pennsic? The same Pennsic shoot where we may/may not get many quotas? Where our numbers are dependent on the whim of some ally who wanted 3 slots in exchange for bringing his spear unit to the heavy field? A shoot where we've routinely complained that our side is running up the score on a much weaker Mid Realm? Switch the logic around - make Pennsic teams dependent on how our shooters did the previous fall, because its inconsistent to claim that winter doesn't affect our shooters for KA, but KA standings 9 months old affects our shooters for Pennsic.

I would like to hear from some handbows on this. I know that its much harder to get back behind a recurve than an xbow, and many of us do not have backyards we can step out in and shoot in during the snow. Also, it fricken hurts to draw in freezing temps, much worse than xbows. I'm good for about 6 shots and then I have to stop.

If anything, swap Lochmere Arrow with Kingdom Champs. Its much harder to compete in Lochmere anyway (I only have twice in 7 years) b/c the other two top shooters in my Shire either team up together or aren't interested in shooting it that year. At least Kingdom Champs is solo, so we're not limited by having to find a teammate.

Our goal here should be to have the most competitive Kingdom Archery tourney possible. I don't want to get into a handbow/xbow controversy here, but handbows are already behind the 8-ball when it comes to competing against xbows. Why do we want to make it even harder on them?  As more and more shooters pick up xbows, we are getting to a point where the Final Eight is all xbow shooters. I think we lose something. And I predict it won't be long before we are viewed as deliberately limiting the field.

Cheers
Fen

Atlantian Archery. Nothing exists within 100 yards without our permission.

I
agree completely with taking at least one of the major archery events to the
fall. Even when I was at the top of the list, and not very far from GBE, I
did  not maintain my average in the spring. Most of my high scores with the
longbow were obtained after Pennsic. Shooting the Winter Series at 20 yards
helps. But it still does not complete the accuracy required for the smaller
summer targets at 20. Nor does it maintian the accuracy required for the 30 and
40 yard targest.

>Shortly after getting home and back to facebook, someone to remain unnamed sent me this private message on there. I wanted to post it here (It is at the bottom of this email) in an effort to gauge how many people agree and may or may not like to see a change. Please take a couple moments to read it and respond with your thoughts and opinions. Please feel free to respnd to me here, or if you want you can email me privately or send me private messages on Facebook, whatever you wish. I will be reading the responses for only a couple days however, because then I need to start the process of spiking the date so that my options do not all fill up, we all know how fast that can happen. Thank you all in advance for your opinions and subsequent discussion, they are much appreciated.
