Noble Friends, and Especially our Mighty Archers,

On 26 August 1346, the Battle of Crécy was fought in northern France.
This was not the opening battle of the 100 Years War, but it marked the
first of the three great English victories won largely by archery
against overwhelming odds (the others being Poitiers in 1356 and
Agincourt in 1415). Although Edward III had already proven the
effectiveness of his archery-heavy armies against Scotland, they were
mere tests compared to Crécy. Outnumbered two to one, the English won
the battle with only light casualties.

You can read about the battle at:

Crécy saw the tragic, but heroic death of King John the Bind of Bohemia,
who charged at the English lines with his horse tied between those of
his knights: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_the_Blind_of_Bohemia

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, That Crazy Scot
