It's hard to believe that Pennsic is already several weeks behind us. The
eneral state of chaos in our home belies the fact that we have been
npacking and doing laundry non-stop! We have so many wonderful memories
hat it would impossible to list them all. However, we must list a few
ighlights. First, Her Highness would like to thank the Atlantian archers
or their kindness, patience, skill and enthusiasm in assisting her and our
on to shoot war points for the first time. His Highness particularly
ishes to thank everyone who kept him company throughout the week. Many
ere recognized with awards, including many kingdom and grant-level awards,
bevy of Shark's Teeth, and an elevation to the Order of the Laurel. It is
onderful to see so many deserving subjects rewarded. We are always
leased, but never surprised, but the number of Atlantians we see working to
aking Pennsic a success. Be it working at check-in, marshaling the
attlefield, teaching classes, or supporting your own groups' camps, we are
roud of all of your efforts. Contrary to popular belief, Pennsic is not
he only event held in August, and we are most pleased that the Flight of
he Phoenix was intensely focused on newcomers.
Hurricane Irene brought a great deal of damage to our shores, and we wish
he best for those of you affected. It touched our hearts to see the
utpouring of support to those in need. While no one wants to camp in their
wn house for a week, just to then camp outdoors for a weekend, we hope we
ill see many of you in a few days for the anniversary celebration of
tlantia's 30th year. Her Highness refuses to admit that summer is almost
ver, but autumn is close at hand, and a great many events fill the
alendar. This month alone, the Baronies of Lochmere, Storvik and Raven's
ove celebrate birthdays.
There is also the small matter of a coronation to be held September 23-25.
e hope to have a grand attendance, and have planned a great many activities
or you to enjoy. Coronations may seem to be focused on only two people,
ut we prefer to think of them as a celebration for the entire kingdom to
njoy. To that end, we have altered the usual schedule in order to give
veryone more time to enjoy the day's offerings. There will be only one
ourt in the afternoon, which allows us to begin fighting, archery, A&S and
hildren's activities earlier in the day. Feast will be served al fresco
mmediately following court. There will be plenty of off-board seating as
ell. Please understand that we chose this specific site so that the
ajority of the populace could make a reasonable day-trip. We do hope many
f you will choose to camp, as we are doing, and enjoy friendship and songs
y campfire. Friday evening we will have torchlight tourneys for armoured
ombat, rapier, and croquet (yes, croquet, and bocce). Also, on Saturday we
ill be celebrating our son's birthday, and invite any children present to
oin us for cupcakes and a chance to whack a pinata. Please, no gifts.
We are looking forward to our travels in the coming months. We find our
reatest joy in the SCA at events. While meetings, demos and electronic
ommunications have their purposes, it is in coming together face to face
hat we truly see the best the SCA has to offer us all. We hope you feel
he same.
Warmest Regards,
uan Prince
