Noble friends of the bow,
Here's an interesting tidbit from the Wikipedia article on San Marina,
an independent micro-nation entirely surrounded by Italy:
Crossbow Corps
Although once at the heart of San Marino's army, the Crossbow Corps is
now a ceremonial force of approximately eighty volunteers. Since 1295,
the Crossbow Corps has provided demonstrations of crossbow shooting at
festivals. Its uniform is medieval in design, and although a statutory
military unit, it has no military function today.
The Crossbow Corps has a page on the official San Marino web site:
http://www.sanmarinosite.com/eng/balestrieri.html , and its own web site
at
http://www.federazionebalestrieri.sm/home.aspx?x=rl3eaT72GnV%2bEO12jRFbgw%3d%3d
.
Is this really cool, or what?
Kind regards,
Lord Mungo Napier, Who Wishes He Could Visit San Marino
