Everyone

The new rule simple requires that you have a safety zone 100 yards deep as a minimum. It does not effect indoor ranges at all. If you have an indoor range the walls and ceilings will stop all misses so the range distances become mote.

Description of the range

start at either end of your shooting line. go outward at a 30 degree angle to 50 yards down range. That will give you a 3, 4, 5 triangle if you remember your HS geometry that means that the line 50 yards straight down range from your shooting line the range 33.67 yards Use 34yards wider on each side than your shooting line from there it goes straight back to a line 100 yards from the shooting line. If you have a target further than 66.67 yards from the shooting line the back safety line moves back to half the distance from the shooting line furtherst target behind the furtherest target. examples: your furthermost target is 40 yards the back safety line is 100 yards from the shooting line. if that target is 60 yards the safety line is still 100 yards. if that last furthest target is 67 yards the back line becomes 100.5 yards is the target is moved back to 80 yards the safety line moves to 120 yards. the only anticipated waiver of this for shooting into a hill which may reduce the required safety range.

The safety range may be wooded, over water, in may contain uninhabited buildings (as long as they remain uninhabited) or any other topography as long as you can control access.

The back of my house actually extends into my range adn the safety zone extends over open water. but if some one comes to side of the house or into the estuary we can see and stop shooting.
