Mini-thought:

Most people's archery butts are 36" (typical ones).  You could do 12"
circles with NO space between them (Much easier to setup as well, just
lay 'em on there) ... But still have the 'must hit the outside 6 before
the middle' thing.

And it would 'JUST' fit on a 36" butt.

Alternatively what Reyne said, use 6" spacing and it fits on a 48" one.

And one more thought:  If you make it 8.5" circles they can be cut from
a regular sheet of paper ... You could then still have 6" between them
(and through funky geometry) it would still actually fit on a 36" butt.
