I agree with Jonathas' idea. I think having the upper three ranks score in the
color while the lower ranks score by hitting the target would make this a fun
and challenging shoot for everyone. But then again, since I'm not a "Bowmen" I
may be a little biased. <insert evil laughter here>

Hello All,

How's this?  Shot at 20 yards instead of 25 and use 10 inch circles for the
outside and a 8 inch circle for the center? We can put them all 6 inches apart.
If this is too big for some butts than we can back it with foam or cardboard.

Its difficult to balance a shoot so that both the beginner and more experienced
archers feel accomplished yet challenged.  If you look back at some of our other
Seasonal Challenges, they were pretty tough.  Remember this is a "Challenge", it
shouldn't be too easy, yet I understand we want to include our newer archers.

So the Challenge would read:

Circle Shoot:  2010 Summer Seasonal Challenge

Shot at 20 yards

Place one 8? circle in the center of the target.

Place 5 other 10? circles 6"  from the edge of the middle circle - like the
spokes of a wheel.

Round 1: 12 arrows/bolts

Outside circles count 2 pts. (multiple hits count) and the inside circle counts
5 pts.  The center circle can only be scored after hitting all 5 outside
circles.  Maximum points 45.

Round 2: Timed end, 45 seconds with the same scoring.

Lorelei

Im not sure why I am amazed still ,but why does it take so long for
important information to be updated in the SCA. Im sitting here reading the
new Acorn, and I see COG's information is still listed for DEM for Target
Archery. The blue pages take forever to be changed, isn't there something
that can be done?

Our royal round yellows are a hair under 5 3/4" diameter and our red/yellow
circle is a hair under 10 1/2" diameter. So using the diameters as suggested by
Lorelei?means basically shooting 10 consecutive arrows in the red/yellow of a
royal round and then 2 more arrows even better than that. Add the fact that you
are constantly changing your?focus to another circle in the wheel and that there
is a?time-pressure round to follow?(which will ferret out?the speed devils among
us) and I dare say you have a challenge worthy of all levels.

I would perhaps request that to make it even more of a challenge, the center
circle could be made 6" diameter rather than 8" diameter. After all, it is worth
more.

Let the games begin!

I was kinda thinking that the outer set of targets should be a 10" circle
with a 5" colored dot in the middle.

Then the inner target could be a 8" circle with a 4" colored dot in the
middle.

Those who have shown their skill at the range and have "Bowmen" in their RR
title (upper three ranks) only get to score the colored dots, where the
lower three ranks get to score the entire circle.  Can those used to being
at the top still keep their spot on the list given the harder shot????
