Unto Your Majesties Logan and Esa, Rightful King and Queen of Atlantia,
Your Highnesses Christoph and Adelhait, Prince and Princess of Atlantia,
the Atlantian College of Heralds, and the good populace of Atlantia,
Greetings from Cian Triton, Principal Herald of Atlantia.
On the day of May 2, 2015, also known as Anno Societatus L (that’s 50
for you non-Roman folks!), at the event of the Crown Tournament to
select Their Heirs, Their Majesties King Logan and Queen Esa did call
for Their populace to gather around Them, for They had business to
conduct before the Tournament began.
Their Majesties did have Master Aedan Aylwyn, Master Alan of Gravesend,
and Master Giacomo Vincenti to come before them upon bent knee. Their
Majesties spoke of this historic moment, years in the making, where a
rapier fighter could be inducted into a fighting Peerage. The King and
Queen were most pleased that this moment arrived during Their Reign, and
They took this opportunity to induct the three master fencers before
them into the Order of Defense as Atlantia’s premiere Masters of
Defense. White Livery Collars bearing the badge of the Order were
placed around the necks of all three men, and their Oaths of Fealty were
gladly given upon the Atlantian Sword of State. A scroll for Master
Aedan was presented and read. The scroll was a piece of absolute
beauty, created by Mistress Merwenna de Rannowe, and had a history of
travelling from Atlantia overseas to as far away as Budapest, before
returning to Atlantia in time to be presented at Crown Tournament.
Gasps were heard from all who could see the scroll, as it is truly a
work of art, and most worthy of a Peerage scroll.
Following the induction of Atlantia’s premier Masters of the Order of
Defense, Royal Court was closed, and attention was turned to the
processional for the upcoming Crown Tournament.
As the first combatant, Torfin blodauga, was heralded in by Baron
Ragnarr Blackhammer, His Excellency did stop during his announcement,
and beg a boon from Their Majesties. It seems that Torfin had somehow
escaped official notice all of these years, and was not actually a
member of the Atlantian nobility. Baron Ragnarr felt that this was an
injustice, and he begged Their Majesties to fix this issue. Their
Majesties agreed, and were well pleased to raise Torfin blodauga to the
nobility.
Following the Crown Tournament, King Logan and Queen Esa were pleased to
crown Sir Christoph Krieger and Lady Adelhait Fuchs as Their Heirs, the
new Prince and Princess of Atlantia. In a very touching moment, and
Prince Christoph crowned his beloved Princess, he was heard to say to
her “You have never needed me, for you to be a Princess, but I have
always needed you, for me to be a Prince”. Loud cheers were heard
across the list field as Atlantia welcomed the new Prince and Princess.
After allowing the populace time to recover from the nail-biting Crown
tournament, Their Majesties did process into Court, along with Their
Highnesses, and Their Excellencies of Ponte Alto. Royal Court was
opened, and Their Majesties welcomed the populace and hoped that
everyone had as good a time as the King and Queen did.
Their Excellencies of Ponte Alto asked permission to open a Baronial
Court, and Their Majesties graciously allowed it. The Baronial Court
will be reported on separately by Their herald.
Following the conclusion of the Ponte Alto Baronial Court, Their
Majesties had the Kingdom Exchequer, Mistress Helena de Flores, as well
as Lady Alana Urquhart, called into Court. Mistress Helena announced
that she was stepping down as the Kingdom Exchequer, and that Lady Alana
would be stepping in to the position. Their Majesties thanked Mistress
Helena for her service, and welcomed Lady Alana as Their newest Great
Officer of State. Lady Alana then swore her oath of fealty on the Sword
of State, and resounding cheers were heard for this lady who has taken
on the job of keeping up with Atlantia’s bank account! (As a side note,
it was a distinct thrill for me to, in the absence of a King’s Champion
during this court, to be able to hold the Sword of State for the King to
draw it from its scabbard for the oath of fealty. It’s the little
things in life that thrill me!)
The Triton Principal Herald then asked for a moment of time in court to
conduct official business. With Their Majesties permission, he came
from behind the thrones and spoke glowingly of the heralds that give so
much life to the society through names, arms, and other aspects of
heraldry. He proudly proclaimed this the College of Heralds and Scribes
were “his circus, and his monkeys, and he was proud of all of them”.
Triton then called for Lady Seraphina Golden Dolphin, who is the Kingdom
Submissions herald, to come forth. As Triton explained the rank
structure of the College, he was especially pleased to take a moment to
thank Lady Seraphina for her hard work as submissions herald, and thus
he promoted her to the rank of Herald, which is a senior level personal
rank within the College of Heralds and Scribes. Loud cheers were called
for the newest Herald of Atlantia.
Lady Jacintha of Highland Foorde was called into court to perform some
Pages Academy business. Lady Jacintha spoke of the Pages Acadamy and
what it means, and then had Sebastian (age 7), Oliver (age 5) and River
(age 6) come into court, to be sworn in as the newest Pages of the
Kingdom of Atlantia. Queen Esa then presented each of them with a
special token from Her hand.
Their Majesties announced that day’s Tempore Atlantia winner as being
Master Marcellus Capoziello da Napoli, who created a beautiful Psaltry.
Master Marcelles came forth to receive his prize from Her Majesty.
The newcomers were invited to come before Their Majesties, where they
were warmly welcomed and given tokens to remember their first event. It
is the hope of Their Majesties, and indeed of all who were present, that
these newcomers would return and join the dream that is the SCA.
Lady Annika Siltanen was summoned into court, accompanied by various
children who had a special gift. These children had created a mosaic of
tile depicting the arms of the Princess of Atlantia, and they wished to
give it to Her Highness. A very moved Princess Adelhait graciously
accepted the gift and thanked all of the children for their generous and
beautiful gift.
The remaining children in the audience were also called forward, and
were allowed to rummage through the Kingdom Toy Box. As the children
returned to their seats, King Logan looked wistfully at what was left,
and commented that the toy box was now desperately in need of restocking.
Their Majesties commanded that Lord Niccolo Santorio be called into
court, where he was recognized for his ability with any kind of
projectile, and was thus inducted into the Order of the King’s Missiliers.
Lord Torfin blodauga was called into court again, this time to receive
the scroll for his Award of Arms. Though he had been awarded arms that
morning, there was not a scroll available at that time. Lady Aemilia
Rosa had some blank scrolls with her, and was able to spend time during
the tournament turning out a beautiful scroll for Lord Torfin.
Her Highness Princess Adelhait was invited to come before the King and
Queen, where she received the Award of the Fountain for her work for the
Kingdom.
Their Majesties then had Baron Conor Levingestoune brought into Their
court to kneel before Them, to learn his fate. Apparently, Her Majesty
had given Baron Connor a piece of fabric to wear on his garb, but it was
nowhere to be seen. Therefore, Her Majesty provided him with a NEW
piece of fabric, with pink flamingos on it, and said she expected him to
find a place to attach this patch. And while Their Majesties had him in
Their clutches, They called for the Order of Defense to come forward,
and then gave Baron Connor a writ to contemplate elevation to the Order
of Defense at a future event. To say that Baron Connor was stunned
would be an extreme understatement.
There being no further business, Their Majesties closed Their court, and
processed out, accompanied by Their Highnesses and Their Excellencies of
Ponte Alto.
This description of court events is accurate to the best of my knowledge.
I remain,
In service to Crown and Kingdom,
Cian Triton,
Principal Herald,
Kingdom of Atlantia.
